Automated Crime Analysis

HAWKEYE searches for trends in any crime category that you specify and for any geographical area and time period. The system is able to identify 729 different types of trends in recent crime levels, historic crime levels, and recent clearance rates. HAWKEYE counts crimes in 5 recent time periods and 5 historic time periods, then performs a sophisticated analysis to determine if any trends are indicated by the data. For each trend that is identified, a color graph displays crime levels and clearance rates along with a text description of the trend. The report also features detailed statistical reports on crime levels and clearance rates for each time period.

Overview of HAWKEYE

• Analyze recent and historic crime trends – When you build and run a crime trend report, you choose the crime types, the geograhpical areas and the time period to analyze. HAWKEYE then counts crimes in each category, each area and each time period to search for trends. Counts in 5 recent time periods are analyzed to search for recent crime trends, and counts in 5 historic time periods are analyzed to search for historic crime trends.

• Analyze clearance rate trends – If your RMS system contains clearance data, HAWKEYE can analyze trends in clearance rates for the 5 recent time periods to search for trends. This information can enhance the crime trend analysis and indicate significant trends in uncleared crimes.

• Powerful statistical methods – HAWKEYE uses a linear regression algorithm combined with analysis of correlation coefficients and Z-scores to identify 729 different types of crime trends. This powerful analytical technique would take days for you to program yourself, and even longer to do the math by hand. HAWKEYE brings it to you with the push of a button.

• Detailed reports with alerts – When you run your HAWKEYE crime trend report, it will contain a command summary that will alert you to any trends that were identified with color charts and clear descriptions of each trend. Other sections of the report will display all of the raw data used in the analysis including the recent crime data, the historic crime data, and the recent clearance rates.

• Runs on Windows, reads your RMS database - The HAWKEYE Automated Crime Analysis System is a powerful desktop analysis tool that runs on any Windows operating system (Windows 3.1/95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP). The system is compatible with most police records management systems including Spillman, Tiburon and Cyrun Alliance. HAWKEYE is also compatible with most major database formats including Microsoft Access, Excel, FoxPro, dBASE, Paradox, and any ODBC-compliant database such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, DB2 and Informix.

Applications of HAWKEYE

• Tactical analysis – Use HAWKEYE as an early-warning system to monitor trends in recent crime levels and clearance rates that could indicate an underlying crime pattern or series. For instance, you might run a crime trend report for property crimes and discover that there is an increase in vehicle thefts with a drop in clearance rates. You could then run a series of HAWKEYE reports for vehicle theft broken down by reporting district to show the hot spots and chart the levels of crime and clearance rates.

• Strategic analysis – With the ability to track historic trends, you can easily compare current levels of crime to past years to gain more insight. For example, HAWKEYE may indicate an increase in residential burglaries between the months of April and May. When you compare the number of burglaries in the month of May this year to the past four years, you may find that the levels have not increased. This would indicate a seasonal trend and not a long-term trend. Your HAWKEYE crime trend report shows it all at a glance.

• Crime prevention – HAWKEYE gives you the power to quickly run crime trend reports by neighborhood watch area or community-oriented policing area. Run reports on violent crimes and property crimes that are presentation-ready with color charts showing the crime levels and clear descriptions of the trends.
